Muhammad Kadhum Arab
Muhammad Kadhum Arab Al-Taie 1962 .. (also known as Muhammad Arab) 1962. retired international referee, holder of a Ph.D. in physical education and sports sciences, a professor at Wasit University, and vice-chairman of the Central Referees Committee in Iraq.
Education and Early Life
Muhammad Kadhum Arab was born in Baghdad Governorate on September 17, 1962. Then he spent his childhood in the Al-Jadida area “Al-Kurd alley” (عگد الاكراد) in the city of Al-Kut in Wasit Governorate where he also finished his primary, and secondary school education. He then moved to Baghdad Governorate to study in the University of Baghdad – College of Physical Education, from which he graduated in 1983. He obtained a master’s degree from Al-Qadisiyah University in 2009 and Ph.D. from the same university in 2013.
His beginnings with sports
After graduating from the university, he joined a football referees’ course, in which he obtained a third-class referee certificate in 1984, three years later, a second-class referee certificate in 1987, and six years later, he received a first-class referee certificate in 1993. In his early sports career, he also played football for Al-Kut Sports Club and the Wasit Governor’s team.
International Arbitration Certificate
After entering into refereeing matches in the Iraqi league in the 1990s, he was chosen among many young referees by the Iraqi Central Referees Committee based on his performance to become an accredited referee in the international governing body of association football (FIFA) in 1998, he then joined a referee’s course in Malaysia, and got officially approved by FIFA in that year.
- He participated in refereeing more than 800 matches including 71 international matches.
- Participation in the Arab Clubs Finals in Cairo in 2003
- Participation in the arbitration of the 17th Arabian Gulf Championship in Doha in 2004
- Participation in the refereeing of the 2002 and 2006 World Cup qualifiers
- Participation in the arbitration of the 18th Arabian Gulf Championship in Abu Dhabi in 2007
- Participation in the judging of the 2000 Sydney Olympics qualifiers in Australia
- Participation in the arbitration of the Athens Olympic qualifiers in Greece 2004
- Participation in the arbitration of the Beijing Olympic Qualifiers 2008 in China
- Participation in the arbitration of the Asian Cup finals (2007) whose matches were held in (Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia), where the Iraqi team won the cup, and I chose to arbitrate the matches (Australia and Japan) in the quarter-finals in the same tournament, and refereed the match (Iran and China), and the match (Uzbekistan) and Malaysia).

1- He obtained the FUTURO III International Certificate for Lecturers in Damascus in 2010, and the course was successfully passed and certified as a regional football referee accredited by the International and Asian Federation.
2- Participation in the international session of lecturers in Erbil in 2010 and 2011
3- Referee evaluator accredited by the Iraqi Central Football Association
4- Regional Arbitration Lecturer accredited by the International Federation and the Asian Football Confederation in 2012.
5- Participation in the advanced international course for referees’ football lecturers in the United Kingdom (London) for the period from 13-20/10/2013, where the course was successfully passed
6- Participation as a lecturer in the international session of Iraqi referees in football in Sulaymaniyah for the period from 26-30/5/2014.
7- Holds the (FUTURO III) International Certificate for Lecturers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the period from 2- 7/9/2014, where the course was successfully passed.
8- Participation as a lecturer in the training camp for Iraqi international football referees, which was held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in cooperation between the Egyptian and Iraqi Football Associations for the period from 25/1/2015 to 3/2/2015
9- Holds the (FUTURO III) International Certificate for Lecturers in Amman / Jordan for the period from 6-11/11/2016, where the course was successfully passed.
10- He obtained the (FUTURO III) international certificate for lecturers in (Muscat) / Sultanate of Oman for the period from 6-12/11/2017, where the course was successfully passed.
11- Participation as a lecturer in the international session of Iraqi football referees in Erbil for the period from 22-26/03/2018
12- Holds the (FUTURO III) International Certificate for Lecturers in the State of (Kuwait) for the period from 9-14/10/2018, where the course was successfully passed.
13- Participation as a lecturer in the international tournament for Iraqi football referees in Karbala for the period from 18-26/3/ 2022
14- Participation as a lecturer in the international course for the development of referees and lecturers in football under the supervision of the Olympic Council of Asia in the State of Kuwait for the period from 27-31/3/ 2022

3- Member of the Central Referees Committee in the Iraqi Central Football Association from 2010 until now.

5- Head of the individual games branch in the college from 2016 until now.
6- Member of the editorial board of Wasit Journal for Human Sciences.
7- Member of the Higher Committee for the Administration of Sports and Youth Work Affairs in Wasit Governorate.
8- Member of the advisory team for drawing up strategic policies for development in Wasit Governorate Council.
9- Vice-Chairman of the Central Referees Committee of the Iraqi Football Association 2021-2022
